One in 10 companies is already investing in AI this year - are you?

Now, the industry needs flexible, scalable solutions to remain competitive in times of skills shortages and increasing product diversity. Artificial intelligence is mostly seen as an opportunity, but reservations often prevent its implementation. Yet automation with AI is already on the rise - here and now. With technology from Germany.

More than 60% of companies are convinced that the use of Artificial Intelligence represents a major opportunity for the German economy. Every tenth company even wants to invest specifically in technology with AI in 2023. This was the result of a study by the digital association Bitkom, which surveyed more than 600 companies from various industries. But when it comes to the companies that are already actively using AI, it quickly becomes clear: With only 9% of the companies using AI in 2022 (in 2021 it was 8%),there is still a lot of catching up to do for Artificial Intelligence in the German industry.

Reservations stop companies from the implementation.

The willingness of many companies to invest in technologies with Artificial Intelligence is huge. However, the reservations that often stand in the way of concrete implementation are just as great. For example, there is huge concern about application errors and the fear of not being able to control AI systems in everyday work. Companies also mention concerns about IT security risks, a lack of traceability of the results and programming errors as additional reservations. The situation is further affected by a lack of human and financial resources: the consequences of the pandemic, interrupted supply chains, rising energy costs and the high rate of inflation are putting companies under high pressure - and taking away room for new, innovative approaches - especially for smaller companies.

Higher efficiency, lower costs: Artificial Intelligence as an opportunity.

Even if there are some fears and uncertainties when it comes to AI investments, the opportunities of the use of AI – which were mentioned at the beginning – should not be ignored. As a look at companies that are already successfully working with robotics in combination with Artificial Intelligence shows: AI has already been on the rise. The technological approaches are there (from Germany) - not as a vision of the future, but as concretely applicable, scalable and cost-effective solutions. Smart automation with AI and suitable robotics components can benefit companies in many ways: maximized efficiency, a lower risk of injury, decreasing operational costs, higher accuracy & scalability. Initially supposedly high investments thus lead to significant cost reductions in the medium to longterm.

What you should do now!

Between all the concerns and opportunities, it is crucial for companies to evaluate the potential of Artificial Intelligence in the context of their individual situation, i.e. the industry and existing processes. For this step, robominds has compiled 5 recommendations for action. These are intended to take away your fear of contact and provide initial approaches for the use of Artificial Intelligence:

1.   Identify resource-intensive processes

What processes exist in your company? And which of these processes demand a particularly large number of resources and time? Which activities place the highest burden on your employees? And where would you like to see more efficiency? Whether at goods receiving, machine loading or order-picking goods - get a clear overview of the processes in your company - not just purely theoretical, but clearly and comparably prepared. This creates transparency and provides a comprehensible basis for discussion.

2.   Question your existing automation

Do you already have experience with robotics and automation and do you actively use them for your processes? Also here, the use of AI can provide even more efficiency: Thanks to pre-programmed AI skills, robobrain® eliminates the need for time-consuming programming work.If the product portfolio changes, there is no longer the need to interrupt and adapt the process - the robot can respond flexibly.

3.   Be inspired

You don't have to reinvent the wheel! There are already many best practice examples and concrete solutions with AI robotics for a wide variety of processes and industries - perhaps even for the process you want to automate.

4.   Start with simple processes

Do you still have reservations and concerns when dealing with AI? Start with simple topics of automation with AI robotics. Then automate processes and tasks in other areas or more complex tasks step by step.

5.  Talk to experts

Especially if you have reservations about the topic ofArtificial Intelligence, it is always worthwhile to enter the dialog with experts in this field. Exchanging ideas with know-how carriers who have well-founded and fact-based knowledge of AI in the industrial context is a good source of inspiration and quickly creates new perspectives. You don't have to be an AI expert to work with AI.
